A hospital in San Francisco, California is looking for physician assistants to provide additional coverage for increased patient load. Providers can expect to see a significant heart failure population, patients on vents, patients who are pre & post op, patients with cardiac catheterization.

Qualifications of Critical Care Pediatric Physician Assistant (PA):

  • Active CA Physician Assistant License

  • Board Certification

  • PALS/BLS Certification

  • DEA

  • EPIC experience

  • 2 years of PCICU (no surgery, no stepdown, must be experienced with pediatric cardiovascular critical care)

  • Exp with heart failure would be a plus, although not required

Duties/Responsibilities of Critical Care Pediatric Physician Assistant (PA):

  • Provide care for pediatric, neonatal, and adult congenital heart patients in a critical care setting

  • Manage a caseload of 17-18 patients per day, with a focus on pre- and post-operative cardiovascular cases and heart failure patients

  • Work within a team of 1 attending, 3 nurse practitioners, and 1 fellow (overnight: 1 attending, 2 NPs)

  • Perform critical care tasks including placing IVs and arterial lines; most complex procedures are handled by fellows or attending physicians

  • Collaborate in a high-acuity pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (PCICU) with an 18-bed capacity, managing patients on ventilators and those recovering from cardiac surgeries and catheterizations

  • Utilize the Epic EMR system for patient care management and documentation

  • Must be proficient in general cardiovascular critical care across neonatal to adult congenital populations
